It has been crazy these last few weeks! That’s really not much of an excuse as far as posting to the blog, but I’ve been been quite low on energy as of late. You know that things are bad when Hutch posts more in one week than I did last month! Part of the craziness was catching up with so many different people! First, Katty’s parents came to visit, and we spent a full week doing the “Chicago thing” - it was great spending time with them! Her mom is still in town and the three of us are heading to Miami, FL this weekend to meet her Dad (who is flying back up from Ecuador for business) for a bit of R&R. The following week I had a conference for work in Donwers Grove. Making the commute out west was painful, even if it was only for two days. Not sure I could handle dealing with traffic on a daily basis anymore. One bonus about the conference was that I was only a few minutes away from the Hans family! After spending time with them in June I had been looking forward to the next encounter - and I had a blast hanging out with all of them and catching up! Ella started getting teary eyed when I said I had to go and Collin immediately grabbed onto my leg and wouldn’t let go - too cute! Thanks Jenni and Jason for having me over on such short notice!
I had taken Friday off as Loi came into town for the weekend. I met them in Evanston and we headed out to the Cheesecake Factory - dear lord, WAY too much food! But it was a great time! We then picked up Katty and headed over to the Cardenas household to catch up a bit more. After getting a quick drink at the Poitin Stil we headed home for the night. The next morning I introduced them to Sarkis and the disaster - I’m sure the memory (and the food) stayed with them for quite some time! We then headed to Northwestern to walk the grounds and meet with an old Prof of Mike’s. We ran into Greg at the library (he is once again a student) and I even had a chance to show them the tile-display wall in its public space! Afterwards we headed down to the new apartment and then walked down to Belmont as they had tickets for Blue Man Group. We met up with them later at Sheffield’s for a few drinks - but it wasn’t too late of a night as they had to head up to Wisconsin for a wedding. It was fantastic seeing them both and hearing all about Mike’s experience in Thailand. Hearing both his and Krong’s account of the Thai Coup was also fascinating! I very much look forward to seeing them again in the near future!
Sunday morning was the surprise visit from Mark and Dana. I was definitely caught unprepared! It was great to see them, but I had a full day ahead of me so I could not join them for brunch. After volunteering for a fundraiser for work, and and interesting bike ride home after a few beers at 2pm - Bill and I headed to Arlington Heights for the Taste of Lexus. After fully taking advantage of the “gourmet meals” and driving as many of the vehicles as possible - the last lap in the IS350 was QUITE entertaining as Bill will attest to - we had a blast and headed back. I went to the Fitz family home for some catching up with the fam. We watched the Bears game and had a “few” drinks… what a riot! It was great to be able to relax and spend some time with them. Hopefully it’ll happen again sometime soon!
Last week was no less busy and I’ll be posting up some pics from this past weekend as well. As the title states, I’m still busy catching up!
